#1 LAWN CARE SERVICE IN DELAND
There Are Two DeLands, and They Need Opposite Things
Drive west of Woodland Boulevard into the Garden District and you’re under oaks that were planted in the 1880s. Beautiful streets — and brutal on grass. Deep shade, roots competing for every drop of water, and lots so tight that a wheelbarrow is sometimes the only way in. Bahia will not survive there. Neither will most of what the big-box stores sell you.
Drive east past Stetson toward Victoria Park and it’s the opposite problem entirely. Full sun, new construction, and lawns going down on compacted builder fill that was scraped flat and never amended. It looks fine on handover day and thins out by the second summer.
We work both halves of DeLand every week and we don’t quote them the same way. Local Sod and Landscape has been a West Volusia company since 2012 — county seat, courthouse district, Stetson rentals, Victoria Park new builds and the historic streets in between.

WHAT WE DO IN DELAND
Six Lawn Care Services for DeLand Yards
Every service below is one we run in DeLand regularly. Where the two halves of town need different answers, we’ve said which is which — because a Garden District lawn and a Victoria Park lawn have almost nothing in common besides the county they’re in.
– New Lawn & Sod Installation — Shade-tolerant St. Augustine for the Garden District and the older streets around Stetson. Bahia or standard St. Augustine for the open lots east of I-4. Delivered and laid on prepped ground, not dropped on whatever’s there.
– Lawn Repair & Replacement — Re-sodding the thin strip under the oak, patching after a pool or fence build, and full replacement where a builder lawn has given up. This is our most common DeLand job.
– Lawn Irrigation & Sprinklers — New systems, zone repairs and coverage corrections. DeLand’s ordinance caps you at ¾ inch per zone per watering day — if your coverage is uneven you physically cannot make that work. We fix the coverage, not the run time.
– Lawn Drainage — French drains and catch basins, especially on the low ground running west toward Lake Beresford and the St. Johns River.
– Grading, Fill Dirt & Top Soil — Breaking up compacted builder fill and adding real top soil so new sod has something to root into. Skipping this is the single most common reason a Victoria Park–area lawn fails.
– Lawn Cleanup & Tree Trimming — Debris removal, land clearing and post-storm cleanup across DeLand and West Volusia.
We also handle commercial lawn care across DeLand — rental properties near Stetson, HOA common areas, courthouse-district businesses and new construction builds.

KNOW BEFORE YOU WATER
DeLand's Watering Rules — and the Exception for New Sod
DeLand has its own watering ordinance, and it’s stricter than most people realise. It doesn’t just tell you which days — it caps how much water you can put down and how long each zone can run. Most homeowners who lose a new lawn in DeLand lose it because they tried to follow the standard schedule during establishment. There’s an exception written specifically for new sod, and almost nobody knows about it.
What are the rules, and what changes when you install new sod?
The days — During Daylight Saving Time, residential irrigation is two days a week: odd-numbered addresses on Wednesday and Saturday, even-numbered on Thursday and Sunday. Non-residential runs Tuesday and Friday. During Eastern Standard Time it drops to one day: odd addresses Saturday, even addresses Sunday, non-residential Tuesday. No irrigation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at any time of year.
The two caps most people miss — DeLand’s ordinance also limits you to no more than ¾ inch of water per zone on any day irrigation occurs, and no more than one hour per zone per day. That’s the part that catches people out. If your coverage is patchy, you can’t fix it by running longer — you’re capped. The only real fix is head spacing and pressure, which is an irrigation job, not a scheduling one.
The new landscape exception — Newly installed sod can be watered any time of day, on any day, for the first 30 days, then every other day for the next 30 — one 60-day establishment window, using the minimum needed to get roots down. Keep your installation invoice with the date on it as proof. This window is what carries a new DeLand lawn through its first two months, and missing it is how a perfectly good install dies in July.
Every DeLand customer gets a written watering schedule on install day, plus a reminder before the establishment window closes.

What Does Lawn Care Cost in DeLand?
DeLand pricing swings more on access than on square footage, which surprises people. A 4,000 sq ft historic lot with a 32-inch side gate can cost more to do than a 9,000 sq ft Victoria Park lot a machine can drive straight into. That’s why we measure and walk the property before quoting, and why we won’t give you a number over the phone.
What goes into a DeLand lawn care quote?
– Square footage, measured on site — never estimated off a satellite image
– Equipment access, which on the older streets west of Woodland Boulevard is often the real constraint
– Grass type — shade-tolerant St. Augustine prices differently from Bahia
– Whether the old lawn needs stripping and hauling off
– Top soil or fill dirt, which most new-construction lots east of I-4 need before sod will take
– Irrigation — new install, extension, or repair of what’s already there
– Drainage, on the lower ground toward Lake Beresford
– Tree root work or canopy thinning where a lawn is failing from shade rather than water
Measurements and quotes are free anywhere in DeLand, and we’ll tell you honestly when a repair will do the job instead of a full replacement — that conversation costs you nothing and saves a lot of people a lot of money.
